Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI)

Spring 2011: Having completed our first NRI project, CAHFH is now searching for additional projects to tackle.

The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative is a program that has been established by Habitat For Humanity International (HFHI), and is implemented by local HFHI affiliates such as CAHFH. The program is meant to assist communities as well as lower-income families.

The NRI consists of 3 different [independent] components:

  • Weatherization
  • Critical Home Repairs
  • A Brush With Kindness

Weatherization projects improve the energy efficiency and air quality of homes.

Critical Home Repair projects consist of repairs that address health, safety and code issues.

A Brush With Kindness projects involve exterior painting and minor repair projects.

We have completed our pilot project, which was a Critical Home Repair Project. The project consisted of re-roofing a house, fixing a leaking chimney, and patching interior drywall.

We had all levels of volunteers - licensed contractors, home repair-knowledgeable people, and eager-to-learn "newbies".

We are now seeking our next few projects; feel free to contact us if you know of someone that needs help.

Interested applicants can download the application form and submit it to CAHFH for consideration

Special thanks to Steve Poliskey (S. Poliskey and Sons Roofing, 85 Eastern Ave., Gloucester, MA, 1-978-281-2442) who provided a roofing crew for 2.5 days FREE OF CHARGE!

Roof and exterior trim repairs were completed in Aug. 2010.
