Our Organizational Structure
Cape Ann Habitat for Humanity's board of directors and its committees. These dedicated volunteers who serve on its board and committees.

Board of Directors
The board of directors is responsible for affiliate policies and procedures, program development, financial stewardship, supervision of volunteer staff, fundraising, public relations, and legal matters. Our bylaws call for a 12- to 24-member board. Ours is working board, our board members also serve on our committees – or chair them.

Volunteer Relations Committee
The volunteer relations committee recruits, orients, and retains construction and nonconstruction volunteers. Positions on this committee include a Volunteer Scheduler, a Volunteer Recruiter, a Hopsitality Coordinator, a Volunteer Database Manager, a Site Host Coordinator, and several Site Hosts.

Development Committee
The development committee is responsible for raising funds and for introducing people to our work. They run our HomeComing Orientations, 60-minute presentations on the work our affiliate is doing. This committee is also responsible for special events and outreach to businesses.

Public Relations Committee
The public relations committee is responsible for raising awareness of Habitat for Humanity in our service area. Responsibilities include media relations and publishing a quarterly newsletter.

Building Committee
Our building committee is responsible for planning and coordinating construction. The committee is always looking for people with construction know-how to lead crews of skilled and unskilled construction volunteers.

  • Our crew leaders are experienced builders
  • Our assistant crew leaders are less-experienced builders and knowledgeable do-it-you-selfers.
  • They typically volunteer one day a month or more at our building site – usually on Saturday.

Family Selection Committee
Our family selection committee is responsible for selecting the partner families who will become Habitat homeowners.

Partner families are selected based on:

  • Their need for affordable housing
  • Their willingness to partner with Habitat
  • Their ability to pay a no-interest mortgage

Partner families are typically working families who don’t qualify for a conventional mortgage.

Habitat is an equal-opportunity lender and is pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy on equal-housing opportunity.

Family Support Committee
Our family support committee is responsible for ensuring a positive experience for partner families before and after purchase. They develop a homeowner’s manual for each partner family and arrange homeownership training for partner families. Members of this committee recruit and train family facilitators to work with partner families.

The family facilitator facilitates a partner family’s transition to homeownership by providing assistance with budgeting and design choices, tracking sweat-equity hours, mediating trouble spots, and acting as the partner family’s liaison with the board and committees.
