CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES
It doesn't matter whether you are a pro or a novice. We welcome volunteers 16 years of age and older on our regular workdays. No one under 16 is allowed on the site on a regular workday.
We build on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
After you book a date, please print the directions to the site and review the description of what to expect on a Habitat workday and our safety guidelines.
Minors
Because of Massachusetts law, anyone under 18 is prohibited from using power tools, working on ladders, and engaging in other ultrahazardous activities. All minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult (one adult for every three youth). Several times a year we try to schedule special workdays for 14- and 15-year-olds.
FAITH BASED RELATIONS
Habitat affiliates depend upon the support of the faith communities in their area for volunteers, prayer and donations.
If you are a member of a faith community in our service area (Rockport, Manchester, Gloucester, Essex, Ipswich, Hamilton, Wenham, Rowley, Ipswich) and would like to arrange for your group to volunteer, to make a donation, or would like to have someone come speak to your group, please contact
Christy Harvey at faithrelations@capeannhabitat.org
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteer Relations Committee
The volunteer relations committee recruits, orients, and retains construction and nonconstruction volunteers. The following positions are open:
- Volunteer Scheduler: Schedule volunteers for both construction and non-construction activities and to keep records of same. We currently have a database of current and potential volunteers.
- Volunteer Recruiter: Ensure recruitment of new volunteers as well as run periodic orientation for new volunteers. We are currently looking for someone to do this with both individuals and groups of volunteers, but as we grow, we’ll divide the job into individual recruiter and group recruiter.
-
Site Hosts - Provide the construction volunteers with a brief orientation, be the “go to” person during the day to answer questions, and do a brief wrap-up/feedback session at the end of the day. Several site hosts are needed.
Development Committee
The development committee raises funds to and spreads the word about our work. If you have experience in fund raising or would like to learn about it, we'd be happy to have you join us.
Public Relations Committee
The public relations committee is responsible for media relations, advertising, promotional materials, booking speaking engagements, and publishing the newsletter.
